Raising a Bulldog Puppy

Raising a Bulldog

Many people think that the English Bulldog can hardly be trained. This is a misunderstanding. The English Bulldog is eager to learn, but is also stubborn and requires some knowledge from the bulldog owners. The strict approach works counterproductive with a bulldog. The bulldog was bred to persevere and have a high pain threshold. Therefore a tough approach would be ineffective. In the education of a bulldog it is important to know that despite its tough appearance a bulldog is very sensitive to moods and voices. The correct and most effective way of educating is to reward good or desired behavior. In this way the bulldog is positively motivated to learn.

There are some important precepts in the education of the bulldog:

  • Be consistent in correcting undesirable behavior. When you let the dog get on the couch some of the time you are giving the wrong message
  • Make sure that not only the wrong behavior is consistently corrected but also ensure that good behavior is rewarded
  • Try different rewards. A nice hug, sometimes a snack or a toy prevents your bulldog will only listen when it sees that you have a reward
  • Start training from the beginning
  • Correcting wrong behaviour may only occure at the moment of misbehaviour, subsequent punishment is useless. You will only confuse the dog and break their
trust. A dog has a short memory and will not understand what he did wrong. Every dog has the natural urge to please their owner; it is your job to show him what you
want. Set rules with your family to ensure that they all follow the same training rules.
  • Take the pace of the bulldog into account. Do not expect too much too quickly or for him to react straight away to your command.
  • The education of a dog is similar to educating a child. You are never done; do not stop after the puppy training or after reaching a certain age. The bulldog with its
stubborn nature will test his boundaries.
  • I advise both novice and experienced dog owners to go to puppy and/or dog training. Not only to learn basic commands but also to socialise with other dogs and
build a learn-, work-, follow-relationship between dog and owner

The Bulldog and children

Bulldogs are ideal as a family dog and get along with children of all ages. It is important that parents take responsibility from the start by teaching their children bulldogs are living beings and not toys. Bulldogs are naturally good natured, loyal and are very tolerant with their calm and compliant character.
Of course every parent always has to keep an eye on children and animals. Bulldogs can be a bit clumsy in their behaviour which could overturn a small child. Try to engage your children as much as possible in the upbringing and care of the dog. This not only ensures that children learn responsibility but also creates a close bond between children and dogs. Teach your children clearly what is and is not allowed. For example, teach them to leave the dog alone when it is sleeping or eating. And explain what a dog likes and dislikes in terms of touch. If you have a bulldog and you are expecting a child try to include your dog in this happy time. Especially in the daily activities after the arrival of the new baby. Let the dog sniff the baby’s scent so he gets accustomed to their smell. And of course, do not forget to give the dog some quality time in this period. Never leave your children, especially infants and toddlers, alone with a dog. A dog may scare due to their unexpected or uncontrollable movements, for instance a pull on the dog’s tail or ears. The English Bulldog is a perfect family dog and a perfect pet for children. The Bulldog and other dogs

Bulldogs are social dogs by nature towards both humans and animals. Their behaviour towards other dogs is the same as towards people. Bulldogs are known for their quiet and calm demeanor.
It should be noted that sometimes it is the other dog that responds different towards the bulldog. This is because of the bulldog’s general posture that can be interpreted by other dogs as dominant.
The same applies to the grunting sounds of a bulldog. Bulldog will rarely start a fight, as previously mentioned. If they are forced to fight, they will not want to lose face and defend themselves. Bulldogs play with a lot of enthusiasm and therefore they can be a little rough in their behavior. They are great playmates for other dogs, have a great sense of humor and are very tolerant. Overall the bulldog is very social with other dogs and is a welcome guest on the dog playing fields.

The Bulldog and other pets

Bulldogs are also social towards other pets like cats, rabbits and guinea pigs. However, the owner has to learn both dog and pet to get accustomed to each other. Especially in the case of small animals like guinea pigs, a dog may inadvertently do damage. Most dogs go well with other pets. The easiest way is to let them grow up together but they can also be introduced to new pets. Ive had a Bulldog who was so in love with guinea pigs, she thought they were puppies and kept licking them and moaning in front of the cage her way of asking she could be with them. Ive seen Bulldogs who were friends with parrots, goats, pigs, iguanas, donkeys and the list goed on.

I am Your Dog

illbewaiting
I am your dog, and I have a little something I’d like to whisper in your ear.
I know that you humans lead busy lives. Some have to work, some have children to raise.
It always seems like you are running here and there, often much too fast, often never noticing the truly grand things in life.

Look down at me now, while you sit there at your computer. See the way my dark brown eyes look at yours?
They are slightly cloudy now.  That comes with age. The gray hairs are beginning to ring my soft muzzle.
You smile at me; I see love in your eyes. What do you see in mine?  Do you see a spirit?
A soul inside, who loves you as no other could in the world?
A spirit that would forgive all trespasses of prior wrong doing for just a simple moment of your time?
That is all I ask. To slow down, if even for a few minutes to be with me.

So many times you have been saddened by the words you read on that screen, of another of my kind, passing.
Sometimes we die young and oh so quickly, sometimes so suddenly it wrenches your heart out of your throat.
Sometimes, we age so slowly before your eyes that you may not even seem to know until the very end,
when we look at you with grizzled muzzles and cataract clouded eyes.
Still the love is always there, even when we must take that long sleep, to run free in a distant land.

I may not be here tomorrow; I may not be here next week.
Someday you will shed the water from your eyes that humans have when deep grief fills their souls
and you will be angry at yourself that you did not have just “One more day” with me.
Because I love you so, your sorrow touches my spirit and grieves me. We have NOW, together.

So come, sit down here next to me on the floor, and look deep into my eyes. What do you see?
If you look hard and deep enough we will talk, you and I, heart to heart.
Come to me not as “alpha” or as “trainer” or even “Mom or Dad,” come to me as a living soul and stroke my fur and let us look deep into one another’s eyes, and talk.
I may tell you something about the fun of chasing a tennis ball, or I may tell you something profound about myself or even life in general.
You decided to have me in your life because you wanted a soul to share such things with. Someone very different from you, and here I am.

I am a dog, but I am alive. I feel emotion, I feel physical senses, and I can revel in the differences of our spirits and souls.
I do not think of you as a “Dog on two feet” — I know what you are. You are human, in all your quirkiness, and I love you still.
Now, come sit with me, on the floor.  Enter my world, and let time slow down if only for 15 minutes.
Look deep into my eyes, and whisper to my ears.
Speak with your heart, with your joy and I will know your true self.
We may not have tomorrow, and life is oh so very short.

Im Still Here

bb

Friend, please don’t mourn for me,

I’m still here, though you don’t see.

I’m right by your side each night and day,

And within your heart I long to stay.

My body is gone but I’m always near,

I’m everything you feel, see or hear.

My spirit is free, but I’ll never depart,

As long as you keep me alive in your heart.

I’ll never wander out of your sight.

I’m the brightest star on a summer night.

I’ll never be beyond your reach.

I’m the warm moist sand when you’re at the beach.

I’m the colorful leaves when fall comes around,

And the pure white snow that blankets the ground.

I’m the beautiful flowers of which you’re so fond,

The clear cool water in a quiet pond.

I’m the first bright blossom you’ll see in the spring,

The first warm raindrop that April will bring.

I’m the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,

And you’ll see that the face in the moon is mine.

When you start thinking there’s no one to love you,

You can talk to me through the Lord above you.

I’ll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,

And you’ll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.

I’m the hot salty tears that flow when you weep,

And the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.

I’m the smile you see on a baby’s face.

Just look for me, friend, I’m everyplace!

Bulldogs in Cartoons

Bulldogs you see them everywhere…in advertising, in movies and series…and in cartoons. The best known Bulldog Cartoon is probably Spike & Tyke. Spike (occasionally refferred to as Butch) and Tyke are characters from the Tom & Jerry cartoons created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Spike is a big Bulldog who hates cats but is a softie when it comes to mice. Spike had a few weaknesses that Tom tries to capitalize on; his possessiveness about his bone and his ticklishness. Tyke is Spike’s son and known as a sweet and loveable puppy.

The Character of the English Bulldog

bb

General characteristics
The Bulldogs are not just remarkable dogs in appearance; they may have an even more striking character. The bulldogs’ character can be described as friendly, social, calm, balanced, compassionate, stubborn, proud and persevering. I personally believe that their friendly and peaceful nature largely determine their character. It doesn’t matter what you call it, but Bulldogs have a unique way of life where the motto is; relax, chill and a ‘no worries mentality “.

The Peaceful Bulldog
It is due to their character what makes the bulldog so unique. You could almost say that Bulldogs have a soothing and calming effect on their owners. A nice detail is that many of those owners have a fast or hectic life and find peace and relaxation with their bulldogs. For example, the high-speed motor racer Valentino Rossi is a big bulldog fan and owner. A perfect example of two extremes matching perfectly together. For more information about famous bulldog owners I refer you to the topic: Famous Bulldogs. Another example showing the relaxed attitude of a bulldog is that a bulldog is a rare barker. A bulldog will rarely use his voice to clarify disputes.

The energy of a Bulldog

A statement often heard is that bulldogs are lazy dogs.  Their characteristics like their calm and relaxed nature is often mistaken for laziness or a lack of energy.
These are false accusations; bulldogs just use their energy very thoughtful.
If bulldogs feel like it the will go for the full 100% and they are one big ball of energy.
The bulldog is certainly not a lazy dog. A bulldog has to see the purpose of his energy use and does not see much reason to hurry itself.

With the false idea of a lazy bulldog a lot of owners take an English Bulldog for the wrong reasons. They think the bulldog doesn’t need/and doesn’t like to walk. This is just an excuse for lazy dog owners. When the bulldog only walks a few minutes a day outside, not getting enough exercise and getting overweight it causes the dog both physically and mentally an unhealthy situation.

The intelligence of a Bulldog
Due to the earlier mentioned characteristics, bulldogs are often underestimated in terms of intelligence. Bulldogs need to see the purpose of an action. They will follow all commands but in bulldog rate (so it might take a little longer). This does not mean that bulldogs are unintelligent dogs. There are several Bulldogs that made it to the highest level in obedience training and also have achieved them in agility competitions.

The Bulldog and routine
Bulldogs are dogs who are very committed to routine and structure in their daily life. Bulldogs often get upset when they deviate from their daily routine. For example, my mother’s bulldog Teun walked the same route through the park every day, when my mother needed to post a letter and had to deviate from the usual route, Teun wouldn’t move and would look in the direction he would normally take. Most Bulldogs are not that fond of change. This may be with the smallest things like moving furniture in the house. This is why it is very important in the upbringing of bulldogs to let them get used to changes.  Let your bulldog gain as much experience as possible in an early stage by letting them get used to public transport, sleeping in different places, walking various routes and so on. This way you can ensure that bulldogs can easily adept in different situations. For more training tips check out the training section.

To Be a Bulldog

Oh to be a Dog… Man’s best friend,
He won’t abandon his owner,
even until the end!
It would solve all problems… what to eat for lunch,
not enough sleep and working a bunch.
Instead… my domain would be the house.
I would hang out and wait to be fed,
Wherever I could find some sunshine
is where I’d make my bed.
No more worries about appeasing my friends,
No more worries about making a mends,
No more worries about money and bills,
Licking myself would provide all the thrills!
So this is my wish, should I die & comeback.
It’s not to be a Shepherd or Rhodesian Ridgeback.
Instead an English Bulldog, all happy and fat,
Spending my days trying to catch the cat.

Bulldog Poem: Bulldog in Bed

bb

The bulldog slumbers at the foot of my bed
Grunting and snoring confounding my head
Paint on the walls appears to be peeling
The overhead light dangles loose from the ceiling
Slime covered pillows from slobbering jowls
Silk pillowcases replaced by old towels
The cracks in the walls get progressively deeper
Timeless reminders of a resounding loud sleeper
Kicking and thrashing while chasing a rabbit
Her dream escapades are a nightly bad habit
Blankets have now stopped covering my feet
My bedroom no longer a welcome retreat
The flatulent hisses are quiet and deadly
Alternated with snores they produce a nice medley
Rubbing my eyes I glance at the time
Since I can’t sleep I came up with this rhyme

Michael Jackson (2).jpg

A number of English Bulldogs have received worldwide publicity,
and became real stars:

  • Bulldogs that become famous cause they have Famous Celebrity Humans
  • Bulldogs known for their performances on TV or in Movies
  • Bulldogs known through a heroic deed
  • Bulldogs known as the mascot of a sports club or business

Skateboarding Bulldogs

The English Bulldog is not known for its sportsmanship but there is one sport in which they excel, skateboarding! Across the world there are skateboarding Bulldogs and some even became global celebrities by skating.

Two of the first and most famous skateboarding Bulldogs are Tyson and Tillman. Both Bulldogs have a glorious sporting career behind them. Tillman died recently but he will always be remembered by the Bulldog and Skate Community ♥. He was known around the world and even went on tour in his own Tour Bus.
Check the video tribute to Tillman on CBS.

The Bulldog has a sort of natural aptitude for skateboarding, they will not only stand on it and skate off but also do turns and tricks by moving their weight on the board, just like human skaters do. They are Natural Born Skaters!

A Quote from Brad Pitt:

“I’m a firm believer Bulldog owners are kindred spirits. Mostly because we can and will have very serious conversations about snorts, farts, shit consistency, crusty eyes, crusty noses, puke, and various forms of gas with other Bulldog owners.”

As said many people choose a fast and hectic life for an English Bulldog. Valentino Rossi is an excellent example. Valentino Rossi is an Italian motorcycle racer. He has 8 world titles and 103 Grand Prix victories to his name, making it one of the most successful motorcycle racers ever. Here an interview with Valentino Rossi on his love for the English Bulldog.

ASSEN – Valentino Rossi started at the Dutch TT from pole position, chasing his hundredth Grand Prix victory. The Italian world champion said in talked in our conversation about his love for English bulldogs. The master speaks.

Dogs or cats?
Dogs! Absolutamente. I love them. When I was young we had a cat at home, but I was more fund of dogs. They say that dogs are the best friends of man, huh. Well, that’s right I do. I have two English bulldogs. A boy and a girl, she called Cesare and Cecilia. I have a special relationship with them, sometimes I even talk to them. When I see them, they always make me very happy. Even in difficult times they have a very calming effect on me.

In 2000 I suddenly thought: f*ck, I need to have a dog. By that time I did not have a dog for over almost ten years. I’ve long looked for what kind of dog I would take. There was one that made my friends house into a mess and others were too large. Eventually it became an English bulldog. I drove to a breeder of these dogs and I bought a boy, that I named Guido. I had a special and intimate relationship with him. For the love I pasted a sticker on my bike from him, so he always was with me during the race.

I had Guido for over eight years, unfortunately he didn’t live long due to heart failure. Guido died last year, just before the race in Malaysia. I had a very hard time, but luckily I was home when he died. It would have been much heavier if I was not there, so I could give him one last salute.

I then went to Malaysia, where I raced home and drove directly to get a new puppy. I called the breeder and said I was coming.  He just had puppies. I looked and found a boy and named him Cesare. I also saw that he had a sister from the same litter. I thought, f*ck, this time I just take two. So I went home with Cesare and Cecilia. I’m glad I did because two dogs are better than one. They both love to have a friend to play with.

Bulldog Hero

English Bulldogs are not known as good swimmers. Because of their heavy build and short legs they have to work extra hard to keep their heads above the water. Especially since Bulldogs are known as poor swimmers that is what makes the following extra special:

August 3, 2008 A bulldog owner from Michigan USA was walking his dog when his bulldog, Napoleon, suddenly yank hard and started to run to a nearby lake. The owner of Napoleon hurried after him and he saw Napoleon coming back from the water with something in his mouth. In his mouth he seemed to have a kind of cloth bag. Napoleon dragged the bag out of the water and  brought it to his boss. His owner suddenly heard  soft meows coming from the bag. It appeared that there were six kittens in the bag, two of them unfortunately did not survive but because of the heroic intervention of Napoleon four kittens were rescued and they all found good homes. Napoleon got several prizes for his heroic deed.

Bulldog Poem Bulldog Friend

A bulldog friend who’s always by your side,
and in a fight he does not hide.
He’s always there whether it’s near or far,
and will not judge you because he loves who you are.

He comes when you call, and does what you say.
He is there every minute, and will never fade away.
He walks by your side, and runs when you’re late.
He urges you to hurry, and helps you clean your plate.

You can always count on him, he will never let you down.
He will always make you happy, and never let you frown.

Your bulldog friend.

Bulldog Farts

It can be hilarious and stinky…Bulldog Farts.  Bulldogs are quite the stinkers !

A lot of bully/molosser dogbreeds have this problem. Some say it is a digestive problem some say it is because of their short noses they take in more air when eating/drinking wich eventually comes out the other end as farts. The last option is from my own experience less likely cause i know a couple of breeds that fart just as much or more and dont have a short nose (great dane for example).

Allthough it can be quite funny, you don’t want to have to put on a gasmask at home cause of your bulldog so here some tips to prevent those bulldogbombs;-)

– Feed your dog with dogfood, dont give leftovers and stick to dogfood and dogcookies
– Let your bulldog eat and drink on a good level (like 20 cm’s from the ground)
– There are special anti-fart dogcookies on the market (yes I know funny, but its true)
– Put in some boiled rice with the dogfood daily or buy dogfood with rice in it
– I haven’t tried it but I heard canned green beans with rice together also works
– If your dog eats too fast and almost doesnt chew his food put in a tennisball in his food so he cant take it all in at once

If all the above fails….

Uhh….Good Luck..! 😀

DogFighting and BSL

After reading and hearing numerous sad stories of dogs being used to fight and dogs that are put down just because they are labelled a fightingbreed, I think it’s time I voiced my opinion on the following issues:

Aggresive breeds/BSL (Breed-specific legislation) and Dog Fighting

For starters: I don’t believe but I KNOW that there is no such thing as a Fighting Breed. Nature didn’t make fighters out of these dogs, people did! Yes, there are dogbreeds that will respond quicker with agression and are more dominant than other breeds but those dogs don’t make the difference but the owners do. No healthy dog is born a killer, not a labrador nore a pitbull.

There are no Bad Breeds only Bad Owners!

These dogbreeds are not born fighters or unstable. Humans create this unwanted behaviour in them. But somehow we still judge our dogs on their breed and looks even in law.

There are several countries where a number of dogbreeds are forbidden just because of their so called bad reputation. Not only do they use this to ban certain types of breeds, they also have rules like;

  • Every pitbull has to wear a muzzle
  • No stafford or bullybreed is allowed off leash in the dogparks
  • Dogs with simalar characteristics to a bully- or pitbull breed and don’t have the right papers are immediately put down for no other reason than their looks

Simple question…What has been learned from human history?
Do not judge on skincolor, looks, religion or background, judge people on their actions… Should we not do the same for our animals?

These laws were made by people who do not know much about dogs and who are responsible for a lot of animal and human suffering which is totally unnecessary. With these laws they are claiming to protect humans from these ‘killing monsters’.. When in reality they are letting the real monsters go, the dogowners and animal abusers who are responsible.

As I wrote before I would like to stipulate, dogs are not born fighters or born unstable. It is  humans who create these unwanted behaviours in them. If you look at it that way, it is heartbreaking to hear when they put dogs down for what their owners did to them. It is like putting down a victim of abuse, just because of the fact that they were abused they now no longer fit in, because of their unsocialized character or unwanted behaviour.

You would think that after all the opinions of animalexperts, dogowners, breeders and kennelorganisations and the TV hit the Dogwhisperer these opinions and laws would have been changed by now. You would think that people would have come to the conclusion that it is not the dog or the breed but the owners that are to blame and furthermore  that no matter how bad the behaviour seems these dogs can be rehalibated to be a loving socialized pets. Bulldog Interdigital Cysts

Interdigital Cysts, (growths between the toes). Nobody really knows what causes them, some people think it is a fungus and some think it is an ingrown hair or that it may form as a result of the penetration of the skin by a foreign body – frequently grass awns. They usually clear up on their own and I am of the opinion they should not be punctured because that can lead to infection. And if possible try to avoid the antibiotic route unless there is an infection. Interdigital cysts are common in some breeds of dog . They are soft to firm fluid-filled swellings that form in the web of skin between the toes. They sometimes rupture and discharge fluid or pus.

bb

Breed Occurrence

The following breeds of dog are said to develop interdigital cysts commonly :

  • English Bulldogs
  • German Shepherd Dogs
  • German Short-haired Pointers
  • Great Danes
  • Pekingese
  • Scottish Terriers
  • West Highland White Terriers

Signs

  • Pigmentation of the skin and hair between the toes (red-brown-black)
  • Soft to firm swelling(s) in the web of skin between the toes
  • Discharge fluid or pus
  • Increased licking or biting of the feet between the toes
  • Lameness

Complications
Bacterial infection is a secondary complication.

Diagnosis
Diagnosis is based upon the typical location and appearance of the swellings in the interdigital skin. XRays may be taken to detect foreign material eg metal, or underlying involvement of bone, and a biopsy may be taken to eliminate the possibility of cancer.

Treatment
Medical treatment involves the use of corticosteroids (like prednisolone) which are effective in some cases. Surgical exploration of the cysts will help to identify and remove any foreign material eg grass awns.
Surgical removal (excision) off the swellings is the usual outcome if a patient does not respond to medical treatment. Unfortunately recurrence at the same site or in another interdigital web is common.

Prognosis
Good if a foreign body can be identified and removed. Guarded if no primary cause can be found because recurrence is common.

bb

When the area is not infected applying the bath instructions below in an early stage this will help to dissolve it in a few days in 90% of the cases.
Soak your dogs paws (preferably two or three times a day) with Epsom salts. The easiest way to do this is to do in the tub or fill the laundry tub up with 2 to 3 inches of warm water and 1 cup of Epsom Salts.
Put your Bulldog in the tub and just pet him for about 10 minutes or so. After ten minutes or so have elapsed, put your bulldog on a thick towel and gently pat his affected foot dry.

Some people use the method below when this does not work. My last Bulldog had this problem a few times but the method named above always worked for her so I never used the method described below.
After the first bath with Epsom Salts and drying its paws, fill up a cup with about an inch of hydrogen peroxide and hold his paws in this for a few moments. The area and in particular the cyst itself will respond to the hydrogen peroxide with bubbling, where as the rest of his foot does not. This shows that there is catalase enzyme present in these areas, which is one of the components released when blood or damaged cells are present.

Remember always consult with your veterinarian before starting any kind of treatment.

You Can Help 2 Stop Dogfighting

Dog fighting is one of the most serious forms of animal abuse. Although dog fighting is illegal in most countries, this cruel form of abuse for human entertainment still happens every day. Infact dog fighting is making a comeback in a big way in the U.S. It is estimated by some government sources that there are on average about 16,000 dogs killed each year in organized dog fights and that number continues to grow. All over the world, in backyards everywhere, helpless dogs are being bred to fight and die for this very sick form of human entertainment. These unimaginably cruel and sick dog fighters are even going to animal shelters posing as a loveable new owner when in fact they will force them to fight against their own fighting dogs for training and to give them a taste for blood. Also, dogs are increasingly kidnapped from peoples yards and homes to die in dog fights.

Because fighting dogs is illegal, people who do these cowardly and sick crimes will try to hide any evidence of dogfighting to avoid being caught. So what do we have to look for and what do we do when we suspect someone?
Here are some tips on how to recognize dog fighting dogs and fighting areas and  who to call to report this.

bb

How to recognize dog fighting
Multiple dogs are generally housed in one location. More sophisticated operations may look more like a kennel; in fact many that breed and fight dogs do so under the auspices of a kennel to deflect suspicion. Less sophisticated dogfighters, especially the urban street fighters generally have several dogs chained in backyards, often behind privacy fences or in basements or garages. Dogs that have been fought have fresh wounds or scars, in various stages of healing, on the head, chest and legs.

bb

The area

Blood spattered on any surface. Dogs may be fought or trained in basements, garages, barns, and vacant buildings, so spatters of blood on any interior walls or floors should be closely documented. Dogs are often trained outside, so watch for blood spattered outside, especially near training equipment. When live animals are used as bait, there are generally remains of the animals on site. On the training location there will probably be training devices like: Treadmills, catmills (jennys), springpoles (jumppoles), flirtpoles, chains/weights, and any implements used to hang or harness bait animals. Pry bars, bite sticks, or breaking sticks are used to pry the dog’s jaws open when he has gripped onto another animal

4e50618919bdf.image

On the Internet
Matches are often filmed and the videos can be used in court as evidence.  Many dogfighters also utilize the internet to maintain contact with other ‘fanciers’, post match stats, to order and sell supplies and dogs, etc. The newspaper can also be utilized to identify potential breeding and selling of fighting dogs. Often classified advertisements for fighting dogs include a reference to ‘game bred’ dogs.

Turtle Chasing Bulldog

I don’t know if I can call it a chase
but in Turtle Terms & conditions I think this could be a Olympic Medal

The Life of a Puppy

This morning, I woke up & kissed my dad’s head.
I peed on the carpet, then went back to bed.
“The life of a puppy, oh my, this is great.”

Then I thought about breakfast,” I hope it’s not late.”
Mom took me outside, we walked for a while.
This never fails to make Mama smile.
I sniffed of everything, that we did pass,
I ate something weird – it gave me gas.
I’m sure my parents loves me, I know that is true.
They gave me so many great things to chew.
Rugs, plants or rocks, I really don’t care.
What I truly like best, is Dad’s underwear. That obedience book, was sort of yummy.
Though it didn’t sit well on my poor puppy tummy.
I threw up a bit, but that was all right,
When Mom found it later, I was well out of sight.

I made streamers of T. P., while running at full speed.
Mom is pretty quick — but I was still in the lead.
I flew under the bed, and Mom flew past,
She stopped-shook her head, and breathed,
“You’re too fast.”

Mama later phoned Daddy, and said, “It was frightening!”
That afternoon, she was sure I’d pooped lightning.
She’d sat at the computer, while I chewed the cord,
She thought I was mad, but I was just bored.

When Mama had enough, couldn’t take anymore,
That’s when my tushy got shoved out the door.
I love it inside, but outside is best.
Lay in the cool grass, and had a good rest.

That didn’t last long, there was too much to do
Can’t quite remember where I hid Daddy’s shoe.
I found an old bone, and scratched at a flea,
I watched the dumb squirrels as they jumped in a tree.

I barked at the kids, when they got off the bus.
I can’t figure out why this makes Mama fuss.
I barked at the neighbor, I barked at the wind.
I barked and barked, till Mom yelled, “COME IN.”

The sun dipped in the west-soon Daddy would come!
I sure love my daddy: we always have fun.
I barked at my daddy, then turned on my charms,
I woo-wooed, “Hello,” then jumped in his arms.

Sitting under the table — it’s sooo hard to wait.
Daddy slipped me a goodie right off his plate.
I raced through the house, and scattered my toys,
Ricocheted off the furniture, and made lots of noise.

Mom found her purse – the one I abused.
Daddy let loose a chuckle. Mom asked “Amused?”
I cowered down low, I must be in trouble.
Dad said, “Wasn’t MY boy, it must be his double!”

Mom turned off the TV, and said,”Time for bed.”
Dad said “Let’s go boy,” and patted my head.
I got in my spot, between Mom and Dad,
I thought ’bout my day and what fun I had.

Mama kicked out my bone from the covers below,
Then let loose a sigh — a sigh deep and low.
She gave me a kiss, and snuggled me tight,
And whispered so softly, ‘My darling goodnight’.
